2004年8月26日，Laura Branigan(蘿拉布蘭妮根)因腦瘤破裂而於睡眠中與世長辭，得年四十七歲，她最輝煌的歌唱紀錄出現在八十年代前期，但提起西洋樂壇的黃金時代，就必定會浮現Laura Branigan的名字。聲音高亢、略沙啞又帶奔放的蘿拉擅長以歐陸舞曲風格賦予舊曲新生命，並且選曲上有獨到的國際色彩，數首暢銷曲都是以英文翻唱義大利歌曲。
Laura Branigan最早於一九七十年代晚期擔任加拿大詩人歌手Leonard Cohen合音工作，在獲得唱片合約後，隨即灌錄首張專輯『Branigan』，於一九八二年發行，一曲翻唱義大利歌手Umberto Tozzi的『Gloria』讓她初嚐走紅滋味，該曲分別進入當時美國兩大音樂排行榜(Cash Box及Billboard)冠亞軍，也同時成為國際暢銷單曲(澳洲冠軍、加拿大亞軍、愛爾蘭Top4、英國Top6)，一九八三年，『Branigan 2』專輯再為Laura Branigan拿下多首排行勁曲，『Solitaire』獲得Billboard流行單曲榜Top7(Cash Box單曲榜Top8、澳洲Top5、加拿大Top8)，『How Am I Supposed to Live Without You』則蟬連多週成人抒情榜冠軍(一九九十年由Michael Bolton[麥可波頓]翻唱拿下單曲榜榜首)，當年她也為經典電影『Flashdance(閃舞)』貢獻一首『Imagination』，『Gloria』亦出現於電影中。
一九八四年，第三張專輯『Self Control』及其同名單曲成為Laura Branigan生平最耳熟能響的經典作品，這首優異的電子合成舞曲幾乎攻陷全球舞池，除了攻佔Cash Box單曲榜Top5，更一舉拿下Billboard舞曲榜亞軍、流行單曲榜Top4、成人抒情榜Top5、加拿大冠軍、愛爾蘭與挪威亞軍、英國Top5，德國甚至蟬連八週冠軍。另一首電子佳作『The Lucky One』也在當年獲得不錯成績。第三張專輯成功後，Laura Branigan的輝煌成就也畫下句點，雖然之後再推出『Over My Heart』等優質大作，成績卻始終無法比過去耀眼。
